Had an issue recently with Amazon AWS billing because I rebuilt an instance and mistakenly created it in another zone. What I didn’t realize is that Reserved instances have a zone designation to them so they only apply to instances in the same zone. So, my newly created instance was being charged at the On Demand price rather than being covered by the Reserve instance price. I didn’t notice this until I received a bill for the period. It was obvious that the bill was more than it should have been.
After discovering the problem I contacted their billing department and asked what they could do about it and they promptly reversed the charges so that I was charged as though it was covered by the Reserved instance. In fact I think they just reversed the charges altogether.
That is the right way to do customer service.
