When Google first introduced Google Apps for Domains and one setup an alias for their own email (gmail) domain hosting URL, one would only have to enter their username to login. This was very simple for Google to figure out given the URL was unique to your own domain.
At one point (I am guessing over 5 years ago), Google broke this functionality when they updated their login pages. So after that point one had to enter the entire email login including domain name which was painful and completely unnecessary.
Finally Google has re-implemented this super simple feature.
