I'm glad SonicBlue is moving ahead with their ReplayTV Digital Video Recorder despite the lawsuit. This device is slick and is probably just what I'm looking for. I've been watching these guys for some time and for whatever reason like their products better than TiVO. I really don't care if they have an automatic commercial cutout thingy anyway. I can already skip commercials with a couple clicks with my ATI Radeon TV card and the ShowShifter software. It just skips ahead 3 minutes which just about everytime puts me past the commercials. And if I'm using my VCR I'm pretty good at fast forwarding over the commercials. I can probably do it without looking at the TV. You get used to 3 minutes in fast forward when you do it enough.

Interesting analysis on the network of Sept 11th terrorists. Also an accompanying article in Business 2.0

Well there was never any doubt in my mind that it was a mistake to leave Saddam Hussein in power after the Gulf War. They better take this opportunity and do something about him now.

I just bought a new scanner from Agfa that was very highly rated for its price range. It worked great for maybe 5 scans and of course when I need it most it seems to be busted. Since they seem to have a decent online tech support system, I post my problem and get a pretty quick response to call their tech support line as I need to verify warranty information etc. I'm guessing because it is totally screwed and I'm going to have to send it in or something.
Well, I call the tech support number, wade through the options, a message tells me I may have to wait 6 minutes. Ok, not bad I figure, I leave the speaker phone on and let the music play. About 5 minutes go by and I hear another message indicating that call volume is high and I should call back later. The system then automatically hangs up on me. Should I not have been given a chance to remain on hold???? Did 6 minutes turn into 6 hours all of a sudden? Is it the fact that it is now exactly 5:00pm and they figure they can just close up shop? Did all the tech support people on the phone with people just hang up cause the whistle blew? I want some answers!!!

I'm not a grease monkey whatsoever but I thought this was interesting:
McMaster's ultimate goal is to displace one very entrenched technology -- the internal combustion engine -- while leapfrogging other, more experimental ones, such as gas-electric hybrid vehicles and those powered by fuel cells. But that challenge, though daunting, pales beside the one now posed by time. Harold McMaster is 85 years old. The race for him is no longer merely against the entire automobile industry, but also against his own mortality.

After the Sept 11th attacks I thought that if enough of these terrorists killed themselves in suicide missions then we wouldn't have to worry about them anymore. Of course only if they took out a small number of innocent people in the process.
Brent IM'ed me today about some DNSCache entries that might resolve this client DNS caching crap I blogged about on the 9th. I did a search on MS and found a way to change the TTL to something reasonable.

A picture is worth a 1000 words or in this case one word - MORON.
I just finished listening to his keynote speech from Comdex this year and I can't see how Oracle still exists with this MORON at the helm. He has absolutely nothing useful to say and I get the feeling that he has no idea the technology that he thinks Oracle is leading the pack on is really just technology most others have already moved on from.

Sometimes MS software just does some really stupid things. Well make that most of the time. Today I was using Interdev and while trying to setup a new web, DNS did not resolve and I received an error. Fine I said, my stupid mistake, I forgot to setup the DNS record. Ok, now that it is setup adding the web should be simple. Nope, same error. After a little investigation and running "ipconfig /flushdns" I can magically resolve the domain name now. Wow, now that is really smart. Lets cache the fact that a name could not be resolved so that any future resolution attempts fail as well.
And now for the more important question? How do I turn off the damn caching of DNS lookups?????? Why would I ever want that turned on.

Is this a joke or what? I'm sure the hackers are already gearing up to create a dePoliceWare utility.

Ok finally figured out the 500 Server Access error on Radio. It happened whenever one tried to submit anything from a remote box. There is a checkbox to allow posting from remote (over the Internet). That seemed to solve the problem. Doh.
